6MED - Emergency Response Management System

A comprehensive emergency medical services platform featuring real-time GPS fleet tracking, live dispatching, incident management, digital PCR (Patient Care Report) forms, team communication, staff sc

Overview

6MED is a complete operations management system designed specifically for emergency medical services, ambulance companies, and first responder organizations. The platform addresses the complex coordination challenges inherent in emergency response work.

The dispatching module serves as the operational hub, allowing dispatchers to create and assign incidents in real-time, track unit availability, and monitor response times. Live GPS fleet tracking displays all ambulances and emergency vehicles on an interactive map, showing current locations, speeds, and statuses. Dispatchers can see which units are available, en route, on scene, or returning to base.

The incident management system tracks each emergency call from initial dispatch through resolution, recording timestamps, unit assignments, patient information, and outcomes. Digital PCR forms replace traditional paper documentation, allowing paramedics to complete patient care reports directly in the field using tablets or mobile devices. These forms capture vital signs, treatments administered, medications given, and transport details in a structured, searchable format.

Team communication is built into the platform with dedicated chat channels for units, shifts, and departments, enabling quick coordination without relying on external messaging apps. Staff management tools handle employee records, certifications, training requirements, and availability. The scheduling system manages shifts, rotations, and on-call assignments while preventing conflicts and ensuring adequate coverage.

Challenges

Real-Time Coordination at Scale Emergency response requires millisecond-accurate real-time updates across multiple system components—GPS tracking, dispatch assignments, status changes, and team communications—all while maintaining reliability during critical situations. The system needed to handle simultaneous updates from dozens of units, instant notification delivery, and zero-downtime performance, as delays or failures could directly impact patient outcomes and response effectiveness.

Solutions

WebSocket Architecture with Fallback Systems Implemented a robust WebSocket-based real-time communication layer that pushes updates instantly to all connected clients without polling delays. Built a Redis pub/sub system to handle message broadcasting across multiple server instances, ensuring scalability. Created automatic reconnection logic and offline-mode capabilities so mobile units maintain functionality during connectivity issues, with automatic data sync when connection is restored. Implemented status caching and optimistic UI updates to provide immediate feedback while background processes handle data persistence, ensuring the interface remains responsive even under heavy load.

Results

Operational Efficiency for Emergency Services Successfully deployed a mission-critical system that centralizes all aspects of emergency response management, reducing coordination overhead and improving response times. The real-time tracking and dispatching capabilities give organizations unprecedented visibility into their operations, while digital PCR forms eliminate paperwork delays and improve record accuracy for medical and billing purposes.
